BOHICA!

Bend Over Here It Comes Again!

With this current gaggle of “Special Interest Controlled” Republicans in the house, it should be well noted to every hard working Middle Class citizen that their lively hoods and the pay they receive for that labor is under attack for what was once taken as a Worker’s Right since the Great Depression.

This is a notice to every working class citizen in the country.  I don’t care why you voted Republican in the past elections, but everyone who works for a living needs to sit up and take notice of this latest news.

What we have here is another salvo being fired from the large guns of “Special Interest” targeted at the Middle Class working people from the GOP.  A little noted provision in the House Republicans’ controversial “Energy and Transportation Bill” that would strip several thousand workers within the rail industry of their federal minimum wage and overtime protections, potentially making low wage jobs pay even less.  This is the same $109 Billion dollar “Transportation Bill” that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid got the Republican stopped when they tried to add the “Birth Control” regulations onto trying to counter the current health care law.

Listed in the bill under the heading “Technical Correction,” provision 6602 would exempt several companies who transport rail workers from their obligations under the Fair Labor Standards Act, the 1938 law that guarantees basic worker rights. The carve out would allow a handful of boutique contractors to pay no overtime to their drivers who haul rail workers between worksites, often driving long distances of 300 miles or more.

Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.) made the statement, “It’s outrageous that House Republicans are trying to take away overtime protections for a class of workers at the behest of a special interest.  These workers deserve the right to overtime pay. It’s not only a matter of fairness, but also a matter of public safety.”

Let it be known right here and now, if they do this to one industry, it will be just a matter of time before it moves to other industries using this “Chink In The Armor” as precedence for doing so to everyone else.

Here’s one more “special interest” that controls a lot less lately:

    Hello NON,
I had to travel up to Annapolis today and as I was driving this morning the thought came into my mind. The indignit outrage from the Bishops over the Birth Control pill sure sounds hollow when compared of the silent protection and the transferring around of Kiddy Raping Priest within the Catholic Church.

As I see it, none of these Bishops have any moral high ground on to be standing on.

I know it was widespread, but if you take into account all the priests there are, the percentage of molesters was probably not much higher than the public at large. I realize the mistake, like Nixon’s, was trying to hide the problem instead of dealing with it. I personally know many priests, both gay and straight, and 99% of them are celibate. I also know of one priest who was kicked out, by his Order, due to his “attraction” to young boys.

The inordinate amount of bashing by the “holier than thou” crowd is what annoys me. I heard the there was a lot of covering up of molestation by the Jehovah’s Witnesses and other denominations also, but you never hear about them, just the Catholics.

My point is that the bashers then seem to be the same people who are so outraged that the government is forcing them to do something against their religious doctrine now. And as you know, the vast majority of Roman Catholics support the use of birth control. In fact, the 2% that say they are against it probably should head to the confessional.

EOK & NON- You both bring up great points. The despicable act is the molestation. The hideous act is the cover-up. The ass-backwards contradictions is the basis of my lack of faith.

A Shaman, a rabbi, and a Priest are sitting at a table discussing the world’s problems. The Shaman says, “I think the children are our biggest problem, and should be dealt with first.” The Rabbi says, “F##k the children.” The Priest says, “Do we have time?”……

Rather than the joke-obfuscation by JOB, I think you are dead-on, Engineer with your statement:

Yet I would not limit it to only Republicans. It seems to me that both parties are guilty of accepting $$ for favors. Ordinary citizens might get arrested for such shenanigans, but the politicians call it ‘fund-raising.’

  6. Engineer of Knowledge Says:

    Yes Muddy,
I concede that you are correct that there are those in both Parties that are throwing the working Middle Class under the preverbal “Bus” in this mater of stripping away the labor laws of this country. It is the bribes, (OH! I meant to say “fund-raising”) of our legislators that has corrupted the system.
