Young Chris Christie’s Boyhood School Photo

Gov. Chris Christie has followed through on his promise to reject a bill allowing “Same Sex Marriage” in New Jersey by quickly vetoing the measure Friday and renewing his call for a ballot question to decide the issue.

The veto came a day after the state Assembly passed the bill. The state Senate had passed it on Monday. Christie, a Republican who opposes “Same Sex Marriage,” had vowed “very swift action” once the measure reached his desk.

I am sure 30 – 40 years from now people will look back on this much like the recognizing the Civil Rights of African Americans back in the 1960’s, as being self evident and wonder why this “Act of Oppression” was tolerated in New Jersey against the gay and lesbian communities.

Now in full disclosure I should say that the photo is not really Chris Christie but I think many can understand why he came to this decision.

The spouse and I were discussing this veto and I stated that the majority in America doesn’t vote on the civil rights of the minority. I went on the say that persons of African decent would not have many civil rights today if they had been voted on by the majority back then.

The spouse replied that if the majority voted TODAY, the minority probably wouldn’t have many civil rights now.

I used that picture a few years ago in a parody of I Love Lucy featuring Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin…the kid mutated into the Loveable Little Lieberman through the magic of the devils plaything, Photoshop.
Christie’s a strange one, eh? Hands so dirty and so basically unattractive that he is crafty enough to realize that he could never pass the entry through the mirror into the National political arena, but as a 1% operative? He’s perfect.
I just got a great photo from my niece. She’s gay and has been in a relationship with with the same partner for almost 20 years.
Her partner was invited to the White House for a dinner and ceremony involving the arts and contributions to youth cultural programs. So, they are posed with the Obamas…two short adorable little white girls in the midst of the towering Obama couple.

Christie’s idea of a referendum, in fact the concept of referendums in most cases to decide legislation is a flawed concept. Especially in this time of money driven manipulative politics. Just look at what the idea of referendums did to California pretty quickly as far as letting voters decide tax issues based on conservative fear mongering greed.
To try to decide basic civil rights by popular, hyper manipulated sensationalized public opinion is just plain wrong, morally and logically.
If that is the way we did things, public stoning, witch ducking and the stocks would only be a few referendums away.
